Ron Kraus, MSN, RN, CEN, ACNS-BC, serves on the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Board of Directors. ENA is the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development, and emphasis on quality and patient safety.
Kraus grew up in the small town of Walton, IN, earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. He earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing and minor in biology from Indiana University in 1996. He was active in campus life at Indiana University serving in leadership roles on campus including president of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Kraus joined ENA in 1996, just weeks into his first job as an ED nurse. Now a lifetime member, he has been actively involved in ENA at the local, state, and national level. Kraus has served in multiple leadership positions including local chapter President, state membership Chairman, co-author of a successful national resolution in 2011, state council President in 2012, and member of many national committees. He is also an experienced national speaker.
Kraus has served patients as staff nurse, charge nurse, and flight nurse. He earned his master’s degree in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist from Indiana University in 2009, and currently serves as the emergency department clinical nurse specialist at Magnet-designated Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, a large academic urban level one trauma center in Indianapolis, IN. Ron won the Indiana ENA State Council clinical nurses specialist of the year award in 2015.
Ron is looking forward to utilizing his leadership in multiple organizations to advocate, educate, and network to provide the optimum care for patients in a safe environment for all, and move the unique profession forward.
